CIRCUS MONTINI YOUTH WORKSHOPS
Experience and learn about the performance of Circus Arts
Circus Montini runs a programme of youth circus workshops at various locations throughout the year. Learning experiences will include juggling, diabolo, acrobatics and trapeze. Trained workshop leaders will work with young people to encourage them to experience a taste of circus skills as seen in our big top show. Workshops give an introduction to circus, teach them what circus kit they need and signpost young people to local youth circus organisations so that their passion and skills for circus can grow.
INFORMATION FOR EDUCATORS
There has been extensive research done into the benefits of circus for young people done by Dean Kriellaar, Scientific Director of the Centre for Circus Arts Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer (CRITAC) at the Ecole Nationale de Cirque in Montreal. This found that learning circus skills provides so many more benefits than other arts or sports activities. Both with physical literacy but also resilience and sense of wellbeing. Research carried out during the pandemic comparing young people who continued with their personal circus practice and those who continued with sports and arts practices. This showed that the young people who did youth circus showed greater self of wellbeing, resilience and creativity. Circus has been proven to improve physical literacy, build robust learners, help with emotional regulation and build a growth mindset and resilience.
Research into social skills and learning to learn at a Manchester circus workshop after four hours of workshops, was shown to have 25 generated transferable skills and attitudes. From this short experience.
